Welcome to Uppity Negress: Where Healing, Truth, and Representation Live
Hey y’all. I’m Kiki Bryant, writer, creator, disruptor, and the voice behind Uppity Negress. If you’ve landed here, welcome to a space that is part journal shelf, part soapbox, and part sanctuary. This isn’t just a store. It’s a movement. A platform. A call to reclaim, to reflect, and to rise.
I started Uppity Negress because I was tired of waiting for someone else to create the tools I needed to process and to heal. As a Black woman who has lived through trauma, poverty, grief, and systemic erasure, I know how hard it can be to find resources that speak directly to us. Not around us. Not above us... in a voice that understands us. I wanted to make something that affirms who we are in all our complexity: brilliant, bold, bruised, and still standing.
This blog is an extension of that mission. While the journals and books in the shop help you do the deep work—like setting boundaries, unpacking burnout, or reconnecting with your inner child—this blog gives us space to talk about the why behind the work. I’ll be sharing personal reflections, lessons learned, and practical tools to help you keep showing up for yourself even when it’s hard.
Uppity Negress is built on the belief that healing is political. That self-love is an act of resistance. That affirmations are more than pretty words. They are necessary reminders that you matter. Whether you're looking for healing journals, conscious parenting tools, self-love workbooks, or children’s books that center Black joy and representation, this space was created with you in mind.
Here’s what you can expect from this blog:
-
How-to guides for using the affirmation and boundary-setting journals
-
Reflections on boundaries, burnout, and the myth of the “strong Black woman”
-
Conversations about conscious parenting, reparenting, and gentle discipline
-
Behind-the-scenes looks at how each product was created and why
-
Personal stories from my own healing journey
-
Real talk about the challenges of healing in a world that would rather see us broken
This space isn’t about perfection. It’s about truth. You won’t find toxic positivity here. What you will find is honesty, accountability, encouragement, and a deep respect for your process. There is no right way to heal, only your way. My goal is to help you through it.
Whether you are brand new to healing or knee-deep in your shadow work era, I’m glad you’re here. Take your time. Read, reflect, relax, or just sit with the words. You are not alone, and you don’t have to figure it all out right now.
Welcome to Uppity Negress. I say what needs to be said... and I make resources that we should have always had.
